Our ProgramsMiniature

Miniature is an Eastern art that typically involves intricate depictions of mystical stories and ancient myths within a small frame. In miniatures, each element and color holds its own specific spiritual and symbolic meanings.

This art encompasses two branches: illumination and illustration. Afghanistan and the Herat School of Art witnessed three prominent periods in miniature art:

1. The first period occurred during the rule of Shah Rukh Mirza, the son of Timur Gurkani.
2. The second period is the reign of the son of Shahrukh Mirza Sultan Hossein Baiqra, which Kamal ud-Din Behzad also appeared during his time and today we know most of the miniatures by his name and he caused many changes in this art.
3. The third period, the contemporary era, which started with the emergence of Master Meshal Harawi, whose ways and methods continue until now.
